Local sights
After a leisurely breakfast we walked round the field and looked at the barn with S&C, then headed off to Alfriston. We had a meal at the Star, and were able to eat outside, very pleasant. We then went to Charleston and after touring the garden went for a look round the house.
R and I have been there a few times now, so it is quite familiar, but S&C were first timers. The Bloomsbury set people that lived there, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, were interesting characters, and had some well known visitors, such as JM Keynes,TS Eliot, and of course Vanessa’s sister Virginia Woolf, who lived six miles away in Rodmell. The whole house is an artistic piece that is very well preserved.
Later we indulged in a spell in the hot tub.
