If you can't beat them...

Dunnock ( Prunella modularis )

A bird of many names, at least it had in my youth.  The common name was Hedge Sparrow ( it isn't a Sparrow), Locals called them Blue Dykies (because of the lovely sky blue eggs) Dunnock was a name but rarely used.  Then if you wanted to really show off you called it a Hedge Accentor because biologically it belongs to the accentor group.

Of the small group most are mountain birds the Dunnock is one of the few exceptions.  Dunnocks are very wide spread having a range throughout Europe and into Asian Russia.  Despite it seeming like a common bird in my experience it is a bird of Amber list conservation concern.

The bird in the blip is a little unusual in that they are usually skulking about in or near vegetation on the ground.  This individual feeds on the bird table about 1.3m (4') of the ground.
