Potential For Improvement
In the woods at our caravan park there are over forty bird boxes, in various stages of disrepair.
Our friends Dave and Carol put them up over ten years ago. Dave is a keen birder, and kept accurate data on the progress of each box. He used to maintain and clean the boxes. It was a big deal for him. I still have Exel spreadsheets with the dates each box was inspected, condition and repairs required. Often nests would be abandoned with eggs in them. Mostly, the boxes provided safe places for Blue Tits, Great Tits, Nuthatches, Pied Flycatchers and other wild birds
Sadly, Dave is unable to continue this vital work, and the boxes just deteriorate with time.
Some, like this one, have been raided by squirrels or Woodpeckers.
It is a shame.
But inevitable that the job could not be continued indefinitely.
I wish I had the time, the energy and will to do it. ..
