Ornamental Poppy
They spring up all over the place. Not only in gardens but in compost heaps and cracks at the edge of alleyways. This is their season and the flowers are stunning in different pastel shades.
But I don't like the foliage. Greyish green, curled up, untidy. I wonder if my neighbour pulls them out as soon as he spots them.
He did have some wonderful statuesque red poppies blooming in his front border year after year while he and Chris were living in Bahrain. As soon as they came back, the rooted out the poppies. Perhaps I'll grow some in my front border next year. Is it because they yield opium?
Eye test at midday. Heaven be praised, I don't need new specs although I have ordered some bifocals which will enable me to go out shopping and be able to read food labels. I chose some rather ravey frames.
