And this is a Hawthorn leaf!

We were invited to a thank-you picnic lunch by Ellie,  the leader of the Hampshire Hedge Project. About 20 volunteers enjoyed a delicious feast at a farm(fortunately in a barn as it was raining hard) near Braishfield. Ellie said we have now planted 11km of new hedges over the past two winters. After lunch she led a hedge row plant identification session. By then the rain had ceased and we were able to explore  the hedgerow close to the barn to discover what plants it contains as well as assessing its condition.  The couple who own the farm joined us. They are about to start turning their 330 acres over to organic cereals and sheep and are keen to improve their hedgerows. The next stage for us volunteers is to learn with Ellie how to survey a hedge to assess its health and quality.
My blip shows Ellie with a Hawthorn leaf!

Earlier I visited my Mother.  My sister C in Cornwall spoke to her via my phone. Not sure how much Doris could understand but it made C and me feel better. I can't believe Doris is still here.
