Liverpool University Hospital

Up earlyish to finish my packing & get everything loaded into the car, in between the heavy showers !

Stopped off to fill up with fuel and get myself a Costa at the drive thru then on to St Helen’s Hospital to pick up youngest (he’s 43 now!) he was finishing work at 12, then onward to Liverpool for his eye appointment.

I lost my bearings as we got close, the old hospital has been completely demolished & the new much more modern structure has risen from behind it ……as you can see in my blip, the last couple of appointments N has had, he was accompanied by his wife so it’s been quite a while since I was last there.

We got parked up & had just enough time to eat a sandwich before walking up the hill to the new entrance, at which point the heavens just opened. No chance of running or me holding a brolly with N on my arm & my bag in the other…… by the time we got inside even my underwear was soaked.

N’s sight has changed significantly over the last couple of years, he can no longer watch tv, follow the football…… his magnification at work is now at 10x …… wish I could swap with him :-(

He copes brilliantly, but last check up alarmed him as he was describing some visual changes one of which is like momentary blackouts, where his sight just goes black got a second or two then recovers, at which point they mentioned a stroke!! Needless to say he’s been having various check ups & scans, MR scan next week, then a heart scan & a heart monitoring machine for a week & he’s taking certain precautionary medications….. all rather alarming when you went for an eye check up, but it seems “a stroke of the eye” is a thing! The increased eye pressure today, although not too much of a worry, will hopefully settle down once he’s got the all clear & doesn’t have to take the meds prescribed, all very stressful.

We got back to his, S was back from work….. we had a lovely dinner, lots to catch up on so plenty of chatting.

I eventually left just after 8pm, messaged C to say I was on my way, ETA 10.35pm.

Another long day :-)
