Beach invasion

These tiny black beetles have covered the beach for a few days now. People out in boats say there are swarms of them over the water. This is the first time I have ever witnessed this but some say it happens in Spring most of the time. Can't believe I missed it as it is creepy. The bugs are also known as weevils but Seek has no identification on them. I'm told they do not bite people but do eat plants. I did see birds on the beach pecking at them so I guess they are good for something...
Planted Roma tomatoes, cayenne peppers, zucchini and basil in the garden today. Some were planted in large pots and put on the board walk hubby made to keep some plants up higher incase the tide comes in on my garden.
 We went to town and shopped since we were low on staples after our trip to the farm.
