What a mo(ment)

I was in the gym changing room after the regular Friday session when I heard that Mo Farah had won the 5000m World Championship to add to his 10000m triumph and his double Olympic wins last year so just had to record this momentous moment of individual achievement. What an athlete and a role model for young people. I really hope he inspires a generation of young people to change take up athletics or any sport and so make a positive impact on their lives.

And what a year so far, Mo, Andy Murray, Chris Frome, Christine Ohuruogu, The British Lions and the English Test team have all triumphed - and I'm sorry if I've missed anyone out but if the successes of our sports stars, this year, and last doesn't inspire a nation then there is little hope for our well being.

There is only one cloud on the horizon - the start of the football season - and the English Premier League. Why is it that so much time and energy is wasted on this one sport which contributes so little to the well being of a nation?
