Ajaccio

Today we arrived in Ajaccio, Corsica. For once we are able to walk off the ship into the town as we are not in a container port. We have no excursion booked so we wander around the town on our own.

As usual we found a bar to have a cappuccino to set us up for the morning. We were far enough from the ship that the other people in the bar were locals, and not other tourists of the ship. We decided we would return here later for a light lunch and/or a crepe.

Our souvenir of Corsica is an umbrella. We had to make this purchase when it started to rain while we were in the town. I suspect the price of umbrellas increased, possibly as much as 100%, when the rain started. This umbrella cost €10, in Lenno we usually pay €5 or €7 at the market.

As we left Ajaccio the captain won this but they was I like to be quite a strong wind overnight, with relatively high seas. He was not wrong.. The restaurant is at the back of the ship, and we had a table right at the stern. The ship seemed to wriggle sometimes while we were having dinner. Not a particular pleasant sensation.

After dinner as we went to watch the evening entertainment in one of the bars we noticed that sick bags had appeared at various places around the ship. Once I was in bed, and wedged myself up against a pillow I slept through the night without noticing any discomfort. We learnt in the morning that some other people had not been so lucky.
