Tortoiseshell

Today's the day ...................... for a butterfly

I have seen so few butterflies as yet this year - a few orange tips and a meadow brown or two - and that's about it.  I suppose it's because last year was such a dire year for them and it's going to take a while for numbers to build up. 

And then today I saw my first tortoiseshell.  Such a lovely sight and it very kindly waited on a strawberry flower, while I rushed inside to get my camera.

Let's hope it's the start of many more .....................
