An ordinary life....

Potfest...

Blip shot of Carol Sinclair, amazing artist. More on her further in my Blip :-))

Fiona, my painter/sculptor/ceramicist childhood friend (and Chief Bridesmaid :-) got the train from Broughty Ferry and we picked her up at Perth Station.

First stop Perth Museum cafe for brunch (lovely pancakes with bacon and maple syrup) and a long overdue catch up. Not seen her since December.  She showed me photos of recent pieces (a painting and some sculptures) she was commissioned to make for a very well known musician and they are stunning!  The beauty and intricate detail in one piece actually made me gasp.

From there we headed to Scone Palace to indulge ourselves in Potfest, an exhibition where 90 studio ceramics artists show their wares and one is able to feast ones eyes and bankrupt oneself in one fell swoop.

Rain had been forecast but didn't appear and we wandered the grounds in warm sunshine, immersing ourselves in the work of these amazingly talented people.

It never ceases to amaze me how all these artists start off with the same basic material and by the power of imagination and their skilled hands, produce such different bodies of work.

Fiona was in her element.  She had hoped to be an exhibitor this year but her commissioned work took up too much time.  She's just about to purchase a larger kiln so hopefully she will be ready to have a place next year.

I was on the look out for a particular artist CAROL SINCLAIR who's work I had seen in the HAG exhibition at the Carnegie Library and Galleries in Dunfermline a couple of weeks ago, and I found her and her beautiful work.  We chatted and she explained her technique to me.  Long story short, the decoration on her pieces aren't painted on but are rolled bits of clay that are part of the piece.  She very kindly let me take her photo for Blip :-)

I told her I'd seen her work in the HAG exhibition and she said she'd heard today that the exhibition may be going to Inverness at some point this year, so if you live in that neck of the woods keep your eye out for it.

I purchased a small vase and a necklace and earrings from her.  Pic of the vase in extras as well part of her table and some shots of pieces that caught my eye.  Check out the knickers on the washing line.  They're ceramic!

As well as seeing all the gorgeous ceramics, I bumped into my friend Dot who had travelled over from Rothesay with her friend Sarah.  Lovely to have a wee blether with her.  Blipper Freuchie also stopped and said hello, which was lovely.  Blipper Helpix was also there today but sadly didn't bump into her.

We enjoyed a coffee in the little courtyard outside the cafe before it was time to head back to Perth to drop Fiona at the station.  Time really does fly when you're enjoying yourself!

Now about to make curry for dinner (the quick version!) then hoping to start watching the much hyped Department Q.

Have a great weekend Blip Pals :-)
