Titanic Bridge
Today I didn't want to get up, and felt really tired despite having a good nights' sleep. Minstrel was curled up sleeping near my legs, and it was just so cosy and comfy. That said, I managed to drag myself out of bed at not much later than my official getting up time of 7.30 AM. (Minstrel didn't get up...)
I've been making a real effort to get caught up on things that I've let slip recently, and I pressed on with some of that.
Later I went out for a walk, and decided to go down the road, over the Half Moon Bridge , back up the other side and onto the Water Rail Way path that runs between the Witham and the Sincil Drain.
I walked as far as the bridge that takes the Bypass over the waterways. There were a few other people walking or cycling along the path but it still felt peaceful. The only sound was the singing, cawing, warbling and chif-chaffing of a variety of birds and the wind blowing through leaves. It could have been warmer, but it was pleasant to walk without feeling too hot. The clouds held on to any rain they contained too.
This is another shot of the bridge that the local people are trying to get reopened. Having to walk up to the other bridge adds almost half a mile onto the walk to the public footpath. The Half Moon is a lovely bridge but it has ten concrete steps at each end - not easily negotiable for the disabled, parents with small kids, cyclists, etc. I saw a man struggling to carry a medium sized dog up the steps one day! And if you wanted to go to Tesco, the Titanic is a much easier bridge to cross with shopping too.
It's known as the Titanic because the large building near it which used to house Clayton and Shuttleworth, makers of steam engines and later various other machinery was known as the Titanic Works. This is because it was the same dimensions as the Titanic ship!
Had my Mum lived, today would have been her 92nd birthday...
