Teal or Turquoise? Aqua or Aquamarine?
Capri’s Marina Grande, from Anacapri. We are staying just the other side of the peninsula you see in the background. All day I’ve been astounded by the beauty and the colours of this place; see extra as well.
That is the positive. I have also been astounded by the number of tourists. It was nothing like this when we last came, about fifteen years ago - when I was besotted with the place.
Talked to a couple of folk involved in the tourism industry. They said numbers have gone up and up, and doubled since Covid - as though folk feel like they have to see everything before the next lockdown.
Obviously, we were part of the problem today. But can totally see why locals get fed up. Although, many of the “locals” on Capri are shielded from the crowds. As we circled the island, a house high up was pointed out to us that last sold for 22 million. Not to mention the huge yachts topped with helicopters, one of which belongs to the owner of Decathlon.
Gratefuls:
- utter beauty, in colours, creativity and clothes, and forms, flavours, flora and fauna, and people and their products
- Dave appreciating the privilege of being on Capri, in spite of the crowds and the heat
- sitting on the ground in a shady spot, eating the sandwiches we took, with the above view below us
