Cast-iron railings

Stornoway is one of only a few towns that were left with its cast-iron railings intact after the Second World War. In other places, they were mostly ripped out, ostensibly for the war effort. Fortunately, it was deemed not economical to do this in Lewis. There are fantastic examples along some of the streets, like Rose Street, Matheson Road and Plantation Road.
