Suburban maggie
We were eating lunch in a suburban shopping centre when this maggie joined us. S/he perched on the balustrade near our table and treated us to a maggie monologue. At first it was peremptory, impatient single notes that sounded like ‘Feed me’. When that didn’t work, s/he switched to the melodious warble for which maggies are best known. That was beautiful, though we did feel a little anxious that maggie might swoop down and snatch our toasties.
