Sgwarnog: In the Field

Biennial

Friday night with the New Music Biennial, part of the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture events.

Over the weekend there are twenty groups of artists presenting  a new piece of music in a range of venues across the city centre.  Each piece is performed twice, with a q&a with the performers and composers in between.

For the first evening I attended:

- ‘Chasing Sunlight’ composed by Mark David Boden and performed by Sinfonia Cymru with an accompanying film about the migration of the Arctic Tern. This was in the Loading Bay theatre.

- ‘Penumbra’ by Outlands Network, a more experimental and improvised piece, staged in the Loading Bay basement.

- ‘N’dehou’ by Daniel Kidane, performed by The Carice Singers in the Cathedral (main image).

All performances are free (but ticketed) and are being recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3/BBC Sounds.  I have booked into seven performances for Saturday and the events continue into Sunday.
