Volunteering

It's been National Volunteering Week and I was Run Directing at Parkrun this morning so I gave everyone who was volunteering a choccy Freddo as a small thank you.  My blip is of regular volunteer Glenys cheering on one of the participants on a very soggy morning.

After we had packed up all the gear, Tony and I drove to the cafe in Hirst Wood to kill time until my GP appointment at yet another medical centre, this time in Shipley!  I developed what has now been identified as mallet finger this week and dropped in to two pharmacies to ask for advice.  Neither pharmacist could come up with an idea but both said go to the Doc!

Trying to avoid going to the Doc, I read up on mallet finger and the NHS site said I had to have it splinted (is that a word?) or else the finger would drop off, no seriously it might not go straight again.  The GP at the surgery was giving me the advice straight off the NHS site because he didn't know what it was or what to do with it either!  Long story short he sent me to Otley Hospital to the walk in minor injuries clinic which proved to be a waiting area full of interesting people;  the man returned from holiday with a crawly thing in his ear (!) the chap with a swollen arm after a nasty bite and the woman who reported her car had been stolen from the carpark, only to discover it was hiding behind a van.....

So, an x ray and a lovely chat with the nurse who knew all about mallet finger and I came home with a splinted (is that a word?) little finger which I have to keep on for SIX WEEKS and an appointment at the Plastics Trauma Clinic at Bradford Hospital on Monday morning!  I can't believe so much fuss when the only trouble it is giving me is hitting the 'q' instead of the 'a' when I'm typing.
