In the footsteps of St Declan

A massive drive - 350km -and I'm now ensconced in the Kilpipe Snug somewhere in  County Wicklow -er, Kilpipe actually. There are hills and a lot of green and tons of siskins on the bird feeder. I was severely distracted enrorute and managed three wells and this rather amazing round tower plus cathedral ruins - St Declan territory.  Unfortunately I've missed the top of the round tower as I ran out of space in the graveyard. It's very impressive, as is the extra - St Declan's stone. St Declan was celebrating mass in Wales when a golden bell appeared. As he and his companions sailed home to Ireland, they realised they had mislaid the bell. Declan prayed for its safe keeping and as they were approaching Ireland noticed an enormous boulder floating by, the precious bell resting on top.  The boulder came ashore and Declan promised to build a monastery in gratitude and Ardmore has been a spiritual centre for hundreds of years. Incidentally,  if you can crawl through the gaps under the stone, you will be cured of arthritis. looking a bit wet today.
An early night beckons.
