Antiques
We are staying in an early 1900’s farmhouse this weekend. I cannot be sure but the door hardware looks original. It’s the kind we had on my grandmother’s doors. But listening to all our ailments last night, reminded me that we are in the same category. This old house has been renovated to add bathrooms and more bedrooms to make it a suitable air B&B similar to the new pieces and parts some of us have to keep us functional. I made the Mexican dip, using Kristen’s recipe that we enjoyed at last weekend’s party, as our donation to the reunion. I foolishly waited till everyone else had showered to hop in. Big mistake - the owners definitely need a bigger hot water heater if they are going to rent to eight guests. The water was still iced cold when I left the shower. Brrr. There were only 24 attendees at the reunion, down at least 10 from last year. Those missing either had passed last year, were too sick or too old to attend, including hubby’s brother and SIL. The food was delish as usual. We found a caterer close to the venue who made us chicken and dumplings, green beans and turnip greens to take, southern pot luck staples. We brought back leftovers and grabbed a rotisserie chicken and tenders to supplement dinner. We are under a severe thunderstorm warning and do not want to go out again. Once again, we are all inside safely. Brooklyn is in Hershey , PA this weekend, playing soccer. The first two tournament games ended in ties, 0-0 and 1-1. At least she got to play full games this weekend. Storms interrupted play last weekend. Mancil is heading home from TN. He had a wonderful time except he left his phone on his hood and when he realized it and back tracked, someone had run over it. Ouch. Good life lesson. Wishing you a weekend without a hard lesson. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting. “Remember that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends (relatives).” - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
