Moss Beck Newlands Pass
We had business in Cockermouth with Kanyl. So having concluded that we headed for lunch at Wellington Farm Cafe. A good lunch and then we decided to take the scenic route back, so we headed down Buttermere. An ice cream seemed like a good idea so we stopped at Croft House Farm Cafe. I am afraid we won't be visiting again in a hurry. Last time we were there they had free parking in their own car park. Now they have a pay and display at if I remember correctly £3.50 the minimum payment. I have yet to find any other shop that charges you before you get in and buy anything. The Ice cream was good but not good enough to merit the parking charge.
Next we took the route over Newlands Pass. For quite along way up the road the verge was full of parked cars, hardly surprising when the main carpark charges £4 for two hours. At the top of the pass there was space to park and nobody has yet got round to charging but I suspect one day they will.
The blip is the waterfall on Moss Beck. I didn't expect it to be showing much given the weeks of dry weather we have been having. Yes this is the Lake District but we have had three or four weeks without a drop of rain. However the rain we have had over the last week must have topped things up.
