Hunting Not Fishing, Week Street, Maidstone

Over the past few months me and my brother have been trying to do more "street" type photography. We've made it a mission this year to go along to as many events and festivals we can in our local town of Maidstone to get over our natural reticence of taking images of people. We are slowly getting better at this (we're both much more on the introvert side than the extrovert side) so it has been a challenge but we both feel it's important to get out of our comfort zones and just have a go.
We've learnt that there are two main techniques - "fishing" where you wait for people to walk into a composition you have already composed ( and where you often have to stay in the same place for a period of time - our much preferred option) and "hunting" where you are constantly on the move through a crowd or location and take your images much more quickly. With the later I've learnt (through numerous You Tube videos) that rather than use autofocus zone focusing is the way to go. This is where you preset your focus manually at a set distance and then only take an image when they are within the depth of field that will render them sharp. Today I decided to give it a go for the first time so I set my focus at two metres and walked towards people passing me by on one of the main shopping streets, Week Street. Not all of my shots worked but this was my best effort and I was quite pleased with the result overall.
The final recommendation I took note of was to set my exposure manually, so I had a go with f8 and 1/500 second (it was a bright day as  you can see) and then set my ISO to Auto - it didn't work out too badly at all as a first experiment!
