Lessons being learned
Quite a nice day weather-wise, except that, later on, the smoke started to arrive from out west and the air quality was pretty poor all day. Ottawacker Jr. had his sports day today: he was running in the 200m and 800m, as well as doing something called the Ball Throw, which is a sort of shot putt lite. Much to his disgust, he didn’t qualify for any of the city finals. I was quite happy, if happy is the right word. A little bit of a reminder that not everything in life comes easily won’t do him any harm at all.
We also had a bit of an incident at the end of the day when he didn’t arrive home from school at the appointed time. As 30 minutes became an hour, Mrs. Ottawacker went out to look for him. Not in his usual haunts (i.e., the park or Second Cup Coffee. So, after a bit more liaising, up she went to his friend Caelan’s to see if he knew where he was. He did: he was there. Home came the midget with a flea in his ear. Well, not too much of one. He said he had just not thought to call. Cue explanations of why it is important, of worry caused, and of consequences if it happened again. I’m pretty sure the threat of losing his xBox for a month will have affixed the correct procedure into his mind.
He's off to Montreal with his year group tomorrow: at times I miss teaching; then I remember days like this. The had actually also called for parent volunteers for the trip: how I laughed.
