...a strangely grim place to sit, given that the town centre has many (much cleaner) benches or even walls on which to settle.

Indeed, the lady in my extra had chosen a bench on which to enjoy her refreshing drink.

At least they gave me some candid photo opportunities. I was grateful, since there were very few people around.
