Positano or Negatano?
The title is a little tongue in cheek, as on the one hand, the town of Positano, just about 25 kms along the Amalfi coast is a wonder when you actually gaze on the buildings gracing what is a really steep cliff face. Yet, every piece of available land seems to have houses and churches and roads wending their way between them. I have no idea how much of this was achieved, but it certainly looks impressive. We had a pleasant enough descent down to the center of town with affogatos and a small lunch at Café Positano, but once we hit the pedestrian only area, the sheer weight of tourists was just overwhelming and necessitated our party turning back up the hill - hence the slightly Negatano reference.
After a last swim in the sea, and a cup of tea courtesy of M&D, we readied ourselves for our final meal (see extra) at Zaghero Cocktail just a couple of Kms up the road. This was a good Italian meal with some delicious starters, fritters, pumpkin flower, cod etc and we all enjoyed a mixture of spaghetti, Gnocchi, and Calamari and Shrimp. A local wine that was pretty good with the name Aglianico accompanied the meal. Now to settle down for our last night here at the site before negotiating multiple narrow roads and hairpins tomorrow, and hopefully emerging unscathed to straighter paths, onwards and upwards. We will be stopping just a little south of Firenze tomorrow night on our trek back up to the UK
