Six-belted clearwing

Sx-belted clearwing Bembecia ichneumoniformis is locally distributed in the southern half of Britain, inhabiting calcareous soils including chalk downland, quarries and sea-cliffs.This one came from Houghton Regis, where its food plants, bird's-foot trefoil Lotus corniculatus and kidney vetch Anthyllis vulneraria are abundant. The larvae feed in the rootstock while the day-flying adults are on the wing between June and August.
