Things don’t always go to plan …..
Well, it’s been an interesting day ……
Up at 5am, leave the house at 6.15 and arrive at the hospital at 7.30. So far so good.
First session is the usual pre-op checks and questions with a nurse, then there’s a long discussion with the anaesthetist where we decide against the addition of a spinal block due to my previous spinal surgery. Finally, it’s the chat with my surgeon before I sign my consent and return to wait my turn in theatre. Just as I leave he throws a curveball - ‘just to warn you, apparently there’s sickness in the department so we’re not sure whether everything will go ahead’.
Sure enough, ten minutes later I’m called back; today’s procedure is cancelled. It’s now too late to reschedule before we go away - he wants to ensure I have sufficient healing time - so we’re now looking at late September or October.
I feel rather shell shocked - but in fairness considering the number of procedures I’ve had over the last seven years I’m probably lucky that this is the first time this has happened. I’m not altogether clear of the exact reason - staff illness or an outbreak of sickness in the hospital or both.
So it’s a question of phoning G who’s still in Liverpool, asking him to pick me up, then going over to Meols where he was going to stay. Of course I’m tired and hungry, so after eating it’s a case of just collapsing on the sofa and dozing while trying to listen to my audio book.
Lili’s in nursery, so we wait for her to come home to have some Lili time - just what I need after a day like this! And of course, Lili provides today’s blip - looking like a grubby little street urchin as she always does when she leaves nursery!
Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts and prayers - I’ll keep them stored up until the next time!
