The Road Goes Ever On

Today was a bit unexpected. We had planned to catch the bus back down to Sandwich and catch the ferry out to the island of Mousa. We'd got the timings wrong earlier in the trip and I wanted get and see the Broch. Lucky we checked the ferry's website before leaving Lerwick, as the ferry was cancelled due to strong winds.

So what to do with the remainder of the day? A fast decision was needed. Since we hadn't had enough time to see much of the Mainland by bike, we decided to hire car and drive out around West Mainland and Northmavine. Bit of a whistle stop tour but good fun. We visited Shetland's only cheese maker in Skeld, before heading out to the head of the western road and views out to Papa Stour. From here we went north to Northmavine and dramatic coastline around the Eshaness lighthouse.

Not the day we'd planned, but a very enjoyable last full day in Shetland. Even had time for a fish supper from the fantastic Frankies in Brae.
