We spent the afternoon in Greenwich, meandering around.
You can’t really see it here, but seen between the two towers there’s a statue on the hill; a statue of General James Wolfe. Canadians of my generation were told the story of how General Wolfe on the British side and General Montcalm from the French side both died in the Battle on the Plains of Abraham in Québec City (la belle ville de Québec).
An American artist called Benjamin West painted The Death of General Wolfe - iconic in my early days of learning about Canadian history. It must have been a popular setting because it was used again for The Death of the Earl of Chatham.
Who knew, eh?
