Just look at that belly!

Yesterday, when moving a breeze block to use for something, I was surprised to find two Great Crested Newts hiding underneath. Given they're quite rare, and protected, I carefully replaced the block, before chiding myself for not having a proper check over them both. But given their protection, to go back and disturb them, knowing they're there, would actually be a criminal offence - and even if only I knew I'd done that, I didn't want to stress them out unduly.

But that meant when going out to check the chooks were all locked up correctly, before retiring for the night, I was chuffed to see another Great Crested Newt making its lethargic way across the lawn. Stunning little creatures they are. A quick check-up. and then back where it it had been ambling before being rudely plucked into the air.

Never seen them here before, and pops a few plans for various areas of the garden and the field potentially higher up the priority list.
