Stuff and Nonsense

Indian Oak Leaf Butterfly

I have spent the best part of the day at the Butterfly House today. The morning was a session with the photographer in residence, Anna, who is helping us create some images for an exhibition later this summer.
Then I spent some time with a couple of the other volunteers planning and helping to fix the leaking water inside the BH itself. I’m not convinced it will work but fingers crossed…
This is a fairly new butterfly for us. I don’t think we’ve had this species before - the Indian Oak Leaf Butterfly or Kallima Inachus. Found in Tropical Asia from India to Japan, with wings folded, it looks like a dry leaf with dark veins and is often cited as an excellent example of camouflage.
