In Bed With David Attenborough

My brother loves what he calls a "stretch out" with the day's papers on a Saturday followed by the occasional afternoon nap. So of course that meant I had to interrupt it for blip purposes (sorry bro'!). There was just something about the depiction of Sir David on the front cover of the magazine he was holding and the arrangement of arms and hands that appealed to me! :-)
The magazine article was to celebrate and mark the upcoming 99th birthday of the great broadcaster and naturalist and how he has had such a huge impact on the natural world and played a significant role in inspiring the next generation of conservationists.
Incredibly he has been on and behind our TV screens for over 70 years -  from presenting his first programme, called Zoo Quest, in 1954, to being appointed controller of a new channel called BBC Two in 1965 and going on to being responsible for a huge moment in broadcasting history when he pushed for colour television - which was launched at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in July 1967 - all before making such groundbreaking series as Life On Earth, Natural World, The Blue Planet, Frozen Planet and The Private Life Of Plants.
Even in his late 90's he is launching a new film called "Ocean" that looks at the state of the worlds oceans and how our understanding of how they function have changed in the course of his lifetime and his belief that it could help play an important role in saving biodiversity and protecting the planet from climate change.
What a truly remarkable and inspiring man! Happy Birthday Sir David!
