Portrait of a tired and emotional Blipper
A few weeks ago I bought tickets for the David Hockney exhibition in Paris. Which is where we went today.
The official blurb describes it thus;
The exhibition, which is being held from 9 April to 31 August 2025, brings together more than 400 of his works (from 1955 to 2025) including paintings from international, institutional, and private collections, as well as works from the artist’s own studio and Foundation. There are works in a variety of media including oil and acrylic painting, ink, pencil and charcoal drawing, digital art (works on iPhone, iPad, drawings….) and immersive video installations.

We’ve seen some of his work before - even have prints of two on our walls. But we were not prepared for the effect of seeing so many together - and in an astonishing building; designed by Frank Gehry.
It’s very hot in Paris right now and even with tickets we still had to queue in the heat. With all the other people; not as many as yesterday, but more than enough for comfort. Which is why I was tired by the end. And yes dear reader - I did shed a tear at one exhibit.
Hard to describe - a video of people dancing (ballet, jazz, tap …) on a series of 18 overlapping screens. The walls of the space were mirrored which meant the audience were surrounded by the dancers. Astonishing - I clapped at the end. I was the only one, but what do I care?
