All-Priests Over 75s 5-a-Side Football Challenge

And did it rain today? Oh yes. Obviously, this was the evening of Ottawacker Jr.’s league match against West Ottawa SC at Elizabeth Manley Park. Out we went, via the doctor’s office, where Mrs. Ottawacker had a walk-in appointment (like, how does that work? Isn’t it a complete oxymoron?) for a mole examination. The issues these Danish people have with the sun. Not like me, a swarthy-skinned Brit. Anyway, I dropped her off and Ottawacker Jr. and I continued on to the field, where I donned swimming trunks and did his pre-game warm-up. The heavens opened; the rain came down; I got drenched. Then, miraculously, it stopped. Everyone else had been sheltering under trees or umbrellas, and in many cases trees and umbrellas, so managed to proffer a minimum of sympathy to me as I squelched over to the touch line. The things we do for our children.

The game went well and Ottawacker Jr.’s team are currently top of the Eastern Ontario Regional Soccer League Boys Under 13s division with four wins from four games. Don’t ask me how – must be because of the warm-ups. The standard might well be akin to the All-Priests Over 75s Five-a-Side Football Challenge Match (especially the Craggy Island team), but you can only beat what’s in front of you.
