Big Day

I can’t help but feel that I lost The Youngest today.

It was her birthday and as much as we had held off for as long as possible, today was the day that we reluctantly gave her a mobile phone.

Her reaction to receiving it was priceless, she was so happy and grateful, and it is lovely that I’ll be able to have more direct contact with her when she’s not with me, but I couldn’t help feel a slight twinge of sadness at yet another marker going down of her growing up.

We were joined by my parents for an afternoon of tea and cake and she was delighted to receive a fishing rod n reel from her grandparents along with some fishing tackle from her auntie and uncle. Trips to the lake are already being planned!

I had taken a half day off as our time together this afternoon was rather limited due to the play opening this evening, so after a lovely few hours, I dropped the wee ones off at their mother’s place and got into character.

It was only a small audience for opening night, but my sister and I were pleasantly surprised to find that our father had come along to support us. The play itself went really well for the most part. There was a couple of bits that could have been tighter and I need to remember to stand still until a key speech is completed by one of my cast mates, but other than that it seemed to pop along nicely and was a solid opening.

Three more to go, and the whole family is in tonight! Yikes!
