Around the Block

Sagrada Familia

A lovely full spread breakfast at home on the patio before a tour around the block and a short metro ride to the basilica. Always well worth it and interesting to compare and contrast with Paisley Abbey, where I’ve been of late. Ultimately, you can’t beat the indefinable and intangible atmosphere of going into such an ancient place of worship. Give SF another 750 years and it will be in the same league!

Nevertheless, I did feel quite tearful, at one moment, as they played Ave Maria. Happy to recall we visited here with Mum.

We strolled up to the Hospital Sant Pau before a lunch stop in a very authentic, small Spanish restaurant run by an older couple with an even older clientele, in Calle Cartagena.

Then, down to Calle Consell de Cent, largely pedestrianised, for a gentle stroll through the heart of Eixample, with a beer and smoked-trout buying stop at Fabrica Lehman.

Now, home before dinner at Sanabres, locally.

A very good day, so far, we all agree!

A few extras of SF added…
