Full marks to the united utilities team who took note of our phone calls, mended the burst pipe on the same day and sent a 'cobbler' to backfill the great big hole and re-instate the stones this morning. I have not seen two men work so efficiently and with such vigour and skill to get a job done for a long time.
As they said - they may take a bit more practice to walk on but cobbles last a lot longer than tarmac. Tarmac lasts perhaps 10 years, this lonnin, with the same stones, has been here since the 1700s .
