New chooks

Dapper Dan decided to come and live with our two very elderly hens last year. At that point he belonged to a lass who was keeping her hens in our byre temporarily. She had lots different breeds of hens and Dan didn’t seem to fancy hanging about with the several enormous cockerels that ruled the roost so hopped over the fence to the more chilled pad with the old ladies.

Unfortunately we lost both old hens over the past few months. They were both 9 years old so had a good run. Dan has been wandering around aimlessly so we thought it time to get some new hens, and ones that are to scale with him. One vanished the day after we brought them here but she’s now back from wherever her adventures took her and all are settling in.

And the fridge is filling up with tiny bantam eggs.
