Republic Square, Yerevan

A change of pace and territory today as we explored Yeveran, Armenia’s capital. Morning highlights were the Cafesjian Centre with its Escalator Gallery which included some sculptures by Jenny Pickford, and the Matenadaran, a manuscript museum which was more interesting than perhaps it sounds.
After lunch we went to The Armenian Genocide Museum, a sobering and difficult visit as we learnt more about the massacre of the Armenians from 1915 to 1922. In the grounds there is a stand of trees planted by foreign leaders who use the term genocide to describe the events that occurred, there was one gifted by Rowan Williams. He also spoke out in 2023 about the Azerbaijani blockade in the Lachin Corridor which cut off supplies to Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Dinner in a local restaurant and back to our city centre hotel via the musical fountains in Republic Square. Extra is the view from my room.
Still no bag, sourced a second T-shirt, a decent toothbrush and dental floss.
