I’ve spent this afternoon at the graduation exhibition at the Chippendale International School of Furniture…my eldest son (G) has just completed a 30 week professional furniture making course. G had three pieces on display…his first piece was this blanket box, which I now proudly own; the oak cabinet you can see to the left and a pair of occasional tables. 30 students completed the course and there were some impressive pieces on display. G’s workmanship was easily up with the best and everyone I spoke to remarked how hard he’d worked. He’s now planning to rent studio space there for up to four years and get himself established as a furniture maker. I intend commissioning a few bespoke pieces scaled to fit my small living area as it’s incredibly difficult to find smaller furniture anywhere.
