Happy 107th to my Mom!’
My mom loved roses so this one’s to honor her . Today she’d have been 107 but she died at 83 in 2001 a few weeks before my Dad died. I miss them both dearly . From them I learned at an early age the importance of providing safe harbor to refugees.
Their church sponsored a family from Yugoslavia. My grandad had an apartment fixed up for them above one of the nursery garages .One of the four children was my age and he and I became childhood best friends.
The value of harboring refugees was one taught by the church as well as my parents.
I will always value this life lesson they instilled in me by their actions . They were not “liberals” either but their values were based on the teachings of Christ — my Dad fought in WWII to help defeat fascism and say No to Hitler’s regime. They would speak out against this regime too as I must.
In the extra is granddaughter M who finished third grade today and wanted to celebrate with us by having a spaghetti dinner. Here she is playing her guitar
