The first flower
On my perennial sweet pea. It’s a special one as my dear friend L gave it to me, and this is its third flowering after she died. It’s a monster this year, about 9 feet tall and in a cylindrical frame about a metre in diameter. Mixing my imperial and my metric:-)) It will be covered in flowers soon.
An interesting day - at lunchtime a neighbour and I went to see our GREEN councillor to a. discuss how our street opts out from being sprayed with glyphosate weedkiller and b. more broadly, what is our new Green council doing about stopping its use altogether in the city. It’s going to be quite a lot of work to organise an opt out, as of course every household has to be consulted. But when there are so many terrible things in the world, (with more new horrors today), and you feel completely powerless - it seems appealing to work on something that might be achievable.
I spent a few hours gardening in the afternoon, but it was so hot and humid I felt I was labouring in a tropical rainforest and had to keep sitting down:)
