Wood White

Picked a kilo of gooseberries this morning to make a pie and some gooseberry ice cream. This afternoon I decided to go in search of the Wood White (Leptidea sinapis) butterfly on the Wigmore Rolls. When I got there it clouded over and rain seemed to be in the offing. There were no butterflies at all, let alone the elusive Wood White. But then, just as I was returning to the car, the clouds parted, the sun shone and the delicate Wood Whites took to the wing. I was lucky enough to watch their elaborate courtship ritual. So, my blip today is of the male Wood White butterfly, one of our most endangered butterfly species.
