Pleasure at the fairground on the way
I got up at 830 this morning, hung out the washing, cleaned the litter tray, made tea, emptied the dish washer.
HImself came down and made scrambled eggs, and then we headed to the allotment. Needed to check the mousetraps, get some lettuce & Potatoes for dinner. I found a plum, which was a bit sad, because I just told himself last week to chop the plum tree down, on the advise of a wise old gardener... we are still hopeful for this one solitary plum and the hopeful restoration of the plum tree once it recovers from its chopping.
We then had to go to Morrison for some bits we didnt get yesterday. I think Morrison in town has become confused about stocking levels since the arrival of the Ferry in town ( just a temporary move until the harbour up the road is refitted to fit the 8 years late and 43 million pounds over budget ferry which was too big to fit in the existing harbour). When we went shopping yesterday at 2 - shelves were empty.
As we drove through the town we were confused. For it was a cold and wet and windy day, but there was an excess of double-parked cars, and idiots running out in front of cars. We also seem someone erecting a tent on the path heading to the beach.
THEN we remembered that it was the Town's Gala Day! Yes, of course, 6 weeks of great weather. Gala day "in summer", and it pours, and blows, and is freezing.
We stopped the car in Templehill and wandered back through the town to engage with the local festivities.
We were highly confused. There was a fairground outside the townhall There were stalls of a dubious nature outside the Walkerhalls. Nothing in any of the stalls attracted my attention.
We wandered further along the beach to a grassy spot where the "bottle stalls and raffles" typically were found..... There were around 80 or so tents / windbreakers.... but as we walked amongst them, the tents were just full of deck chairs, and wet people drinking cans, or flasks. Every single one.
I totally sound like a snob here, but I knew we were not walking in amongst locals. They just weren't "Troon". (Edit : I am a total snob btw)
We met one of Himself's aquaintances, who is on the community council and he informed us, that the local council had double booked the beach (can you believe it) and a party of 500 Weans, from a glasgow Suburb for basically a "Sunday School Trip"., and the community councils Gala Day. OhJoy, and then of course, the weather jumped in too and made it totally crap.
We wandered back along the prom because the lumpy grass plays havoc with my feet. We then headed towards the Town to walk back up again and spotted a queue outside the town hall .... honestly it was round the corner. We couldnt find any signs until we got back in amongs the shops... It was advertising a local "singer". But I can't honestly understand the size of the queue.
Even better, I looked up the community council page tonight, and apparently the singer was cancelled.
The poor Gala queen was spotted wandering damply amongst the near empty fairground stalls, thanking the stall holders for their efforts.
It was a very, very intriguing day.
We finished at Morrison, and came home. I made Lemon Curd for me mam, and a batch of Choc Chip Cookies for Dad Mrk 2. (I forgot a card)
Then, I climbed aboard my NEW TREADMILL and walked 2500 steps on my first attempt.
I've walked another 1000 since then.
Updates to follow.
