London in summer
Tommy left this morning to return to Munich. Once again he had a problem with his flight, but at the last minute he was offered a seat on his Lufthansa flight only because someone else failed to turn up so there was a spare seat.
I went to London this morning to meet up with a long standing friend - we met at university decades ago and are still friends today, although he lives in South Africa. He was in London visiting his son who lives here. Gavin had work meetings and then joined us at the cafe where we met for coffee. We had a good catchup and chatted about all our mutual friends, those who live in SA, the UK and elsewhere. The cafe was one I had not been to before, it had an incredible array of cakes on display that had all the tourists pressing their noses to the window just to gawp at the cakes. And can you believe we all restrained from eating any cake? We had coffees, and later we all had chicken Caesar salads for lunch.
Gavin and I then wandered back to his office where we got his car to drive home.
London is wonderful in summer - well apart from the pavements being over crowded from all the millions of tourists, about 6 million of them! The top photo on the left shows Old Bond Street with the art by Anselm Kiefer on flags. The green bikes are Lime Bikes, an electric bike rental service that many people use to get across London. The man cycling the cargo bike is probably going to do the school run, it's a popular option in the city these days. The flags are still up from the Trooping of the Colour on Saturday. Buckingham Palace can be spotted on the bottom left.
The warm weather continues all week!
