A Profusion of Puffins
An early start for our boat trip out to May Isle. Not a flat calm for the sail but neither was it too rough. It would have been nice to have some sunshine but can't really complain as it was warm and dry.
Arriving on the island we were given a brief chat about the 'do's and don'ts' followed by the bad news that there were no Arctic Terns nesting this year. An Owl had gone on a killing spree last year and killed about 300 chicks so this year the Terns went elsewhere .... I can't blame them but I did miss their beauty and the noise they make.
The Puffins never disappoint and there were thousands of them across the island with most gathered near the cliff tops so it was easy to fly off to collect beakfuls of sand eels.
Sadly, no overnight stays so we had to sail back to Anstruther and the tradition on returning is to head to the chippy!
