One of my quickest routes over to the next neighborhood is via Vista Bridge. It's a beautiful walk, steep hills, views of some of the Cascade peaks and downtown skyline. But I don't much like walking over the Vista Bridge, it gives me the willies, it crosses a deep ravine and it's very high up, the sidewalk is also very narrow. Often I just cannot deal with it and go the slightly longer route. I surprised myself and crossed and actually managed to pause twice (this is a big deal) to take pictures of the views of Mount Hood and Mount Saint Helens, a good distraction from my fear of heights* palpitations. ( Argh!) Main picture is the view of Jefferson St and Mount Hood.
Extras are a glimpse of Mount Rainier (not a good photo) on the walk up SW Market St. toward the bridge, then the arch of the Fremont Bridge with Mount St Helens as backdrop. On clear, bright days like this it's pretty amazing.
*This fear is not of all heights, just particular ones.
Took a different route home. :-)
Vista Bridge is very pretty and is one I've only blipped once in all this time. That old blip was before the city installed the suicide prevention fencing. I found an interesting piece on the bridge construction and history.
