On the way to the Slip

The days come and go and I have trouble trying to remember where I am in the week. Today it is Wednesday all day and because swimming was with the high tide at2pm, I had a leisurely start.
I sauntered down the Street to buy milk  and because I like Orkney milk I had a bit further to go to find it and I also found the shop that had it also sells Orkney butter. That is a find which I will buy later to take back home-hello Orkney Butter, goodbye Lurpak!

Maureen Selkie cycled up for coffee and we had a great time until we realised we were leaving it quite late to get organised for the slip. There was a big turn out of Selkies plus two visitors from Felixstowe who found the water temperature akin to that of March and April down south. The wind was offshore so there was a fair amount of facial wave battering getting back to land.

For some reason I felt I needed another ice cream and was happily sat at the harbour licking when I realised that WendyF Selkie was going to come past the flat and we would go and see an exhibition of children’s art work in the Pier Art Centre.  Cue a rapid return to the flat licking as I went. The children’s art work in the event was unfindable but we did see a small display of art by Ukrainian refugees living in Orkney. The pictures were accompanied by haunting descriptions of being uprooted from their country and making new lives here.

There was a video call later with the Glasgow family to find out how Ewan’s P7 Leavers’Assembly went. Suffice it to say he had me in stitches with his description of the proceedings at Alexandra Parade Primary School.
They all got their new ties for Whitehill Secondary School so we’ll see how that all transpires after the holidays.
