A PARTRIDGE IN A CEME-TREE

I went up to Spion Kop again this afternoon to look for bee orchids after Kath had kindly given me directions, and did find some (first extra) which were going to be my blip until I encountered a brace of grey partridge(s?) walking along one of the paths in front of me. You can just see the second one very blurred in the background at the top of the blip. Second extra is an early six-spot burnet moth on knapweed. In a week the cemetery will be full of them.

I've filled in a few more gaps from the last fortnight and will have caught up soon.

The partridges scuttled off into the long grass and I was just telling a newly-arrived dog walker about them (she took the dog in the opposite direction) when we both remarked on a crackling sound from nearby. As I got back to the cemetery gates and the car I realised that there was a fire in the hedgerow across the road so phoned 999 but they'd already had a call and were on the way, and arrived in about five minutes with police following. I gather that there are frequent fires near there as well as other anti-social behaviour.
