Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Back to the beach yet again

The ducks roosting on the sands across the estuary (best viewed large!)  are Eider Ducks Somateria mollissima . According to  the new-fangled AI Overview they are also also called St. Cuthbert's duck or Cuddy's duck. A  group of eider ducks is called a raft when they are on the water and a flock while in flight. Other less common terms include team, brace, or a paddling. A group of eider ducklings tended to by multiple females is called a crèche.
