View from my Bed

This is the view from my bed on a sunny morning. It’s a view to die for,  although I have no plans to do that any time soon. There are of course days when the clouds are low and the mist is down and the scene is not quite so appealing.

It’s almost midsummmer and the sun rises at 4am and sets at 10:30 pm although there is plenty light in the sky long after sunset. On Saturday night many of the Selkies are doing a 14 mile walk starting at midnight to raise money for Clan , a Cancer Support Charity which operates in the NE of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland. The “SimmerDim” should allow them enough light in the wee small hours not to get lost en route.

It was warm and sunny all day today and our swim at 2pm was glorious. On days like today when  it’s warm getting out of the sea, it’s hard to remember the after shivering of the dips in mid winter.

You can take a girl out of the city but sometimes you can’t take the city out of the girl and when she longs for a coffee inside a café rather than on a bench en plein air, she has to go to Kirkwall to find one.
I got an early bus, had my coffee and was back in Stromness  before 11am. Thank goodness for my bus pass.

I’m hoping as I write this that CMC  who is the co director of the Cheeky Monkey Service run by IainatCreel is popping in to say hello after her stint in the Orkney Cats’ Charity shop and then later Selkie Libby will keep me entertained until the lovely Michael rescues her from my clutches…… or is it the other way round? In any event it will be a hilarious evening.
